"TeaCake Kids" was founded in 1990, by Jonquil Akhir after realizing there was a void in Quality children's Apparel featuring positive images of African American children or other children of color. Her objective was to create a line of clothing and accessories to promote positive self esteem and ethnic pride in children of color from infants through age 10 years.
